Burlington, Vermont/Possible move to Burlington, VT
Expert: David Beckett - 3/1/2010
QuestionHello David,
This is a great service that you are providing and have been an avid reader for the last few months! My wife and I (along with our 4.5 year old twin boys) maybe re-locating to the Burlington, VT area in the very near future (next 6 months)and are starting to get as much info as possible. We will want to rent at first to check our options for buying after year one; my job will be in South Burlington (can commute -I currently do a 4 hour roundtrip from Baltimore-Washington, DC- but prefer to keep it 1 hour roundtrip); my kids are hearing impaired so will need to access some services when they go to school. We would like your advice/guidance on renting (SFH preferred, but townhouse and apartment buildings are good too)to be near the Burlington CBD to take advantage of the cultural/social events, but will be willing to live in a family-friendly area with strong schools.
thanks
Michael
AnswerHi Michael -
Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy you've enjoyed the posts!
In addition to the places you'd think of looking (The Burlington Free Press, Seven days, craigslist and so on) I have a list of property managers and rental specialists - and a landlord or two - I'm happy to share with you. I'd prefer to pass this on to you via email. Some of the people on the list don't advertise much (too many phone calls result) and prefer to find tenants through personal referrals.
If you'd care to email me, (at the address below) I'll send you an annotated list of these rental contacts.
While the rental market in The Greater Burlington Area is very tight, I think it's also true that what you are able to find is likely to be significantly closer than you are now. And you'll likely be happy with the schools I think, as well as the variety of cultural/social opportunities on offer here. There's really an astonishing amount happening here for a city of our size.
All the best,
David
