Hi David, I was wondering if you have spent time in eastern Iowa or Chicago, and if so, how do the Vermont winters compare? I love the idea of Vermont, but I'm wondering how much worse the winters are.

Also, I was wondering about the housing market around the University of Vermont-- is it possible to find a house with a good bit of yard (at least 3/4 of acre) within a few miles of the University or is more commuting type situation (30-40 minutes)?

Hi Carrie -

I fear I may be the wrong person to weigh in on whether the weather is "worse" than other places. I haven't lived in Chicago or Iowa, but I know people who do. The ones I really know well wish they lived in VT, partly because there's so much to DO here in the Winter. I really embrace the 6 or 7 seasons we have and I try to use Winter to it's fullest. There's a lot to use it for...

I'd be very happy to give you the nickle tour of UVM and Burlington when you visit if you like, and show you what I mean.

...and if you'd like to email me I can send you some specific info on homes with big lots in Greater Burlington Area. 3/4 of an acre is a big lot, but there are certainly homes with big lots and/or abutting land.
