Hi Dave

Also being a Dave Beckett in a  Burlington (Ontario!) I thought I'd ask if there is likely to be skiing at Stowe in the first week of December of this year.  I'm staying at Stowe from Dec 5 to 12 and was hoping for some good conditions for the boards.

Hi Dave -

I teach skiing right down the road at Sugarbush VT. Stowe's a very nice little town, and a good ski area. You'll have a nice time. Don't miss the Ski Museum.

The snow conditions at that time of year vary wildly. You might get lucky and have good skiing - or not. It's just a guess. There should be some skiing though, even if it's not as great as late March/early April, which is pretty reliably fantastic.

I'm sure you know this, but if you need some other distractions while you're here, Burlington VT is just 1 hour from Stowe and is quite a charming small city. There's a pedestrian downtown area, with lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries, performing arts etc. There are a number of clubs with live music of various kinds, and about 3 or 4 dozen movie screens in the area. Or if you have bad luck with the weather, there's always Jay Peak. It's a bit of a drive for you (although Burlington makes a nice stop on the way or even for an overnight) from Stowe - but Jay Peak is located in a little microclimate. They have the most reliable snow conditions around and almost always have substantially better snow conditions than anywhere else around. The are often BURIED in snow at Jay Peak.
