Question
Hi there,

I'm considering moving to Burlington but I'm a city person with
no car (or even a license!). I know that there's a bus system in
and around Burlington. Can I survive in Burlington on public
transportation?

Answer
Hi KL -

I once lived in Burlington without a car for a 9 year stretch. It's entirely possible. But of course it would probably depend upon where work was and where you lived.
The Chittenden County Transportation Authority (CCTA) maintains a web site at http://www.cctaride.org/main.php I'm fairly certain the bus serves the large Shaws and Price Chopper about a mile away. In the Summer months there's an excellent Farmer's Market right downtown on Saturdays!

If you're on foot and close enough, there's City Market for food http://www.livingnaturally.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp?storeID=3...

There are also some excellent smaller shops, particularly the asian markets on North Street.

There's a large chain drug store right downtown too, which stocks a surprising number of grocery items.

I hope that helps!
