Burlington, Vermont/interested in moving to Burlington area

Question
Hello David, I am interested in moving to the Burlington area  in the next 18 months - sooner if possible. My parents are very elderly (80) and I will be bringing them with me. Looking for a nice small town within 30 minutes of Burlington as they will need to be near a good hospital should something happen. My best friend will also be moving with us after her daughter graduates. Basically, we're all tired of living in the south! Lisa and I will be visiting your beautiful state Jan 31, 08 for several days. My son is interested in perhaps attending Middlebury College to pursue his masters (he's teaching in France now) so I'm interested in living somewhere between Middlebury and Burlington. Any suggestions? I would like a bit of land if possible 5-10 acres with a house and a guest house for the folks. I just want their golden years to be spent somewhere beautiful. Lisa will also want to buy a house. Would it be  possible to meet with you when we come in January to gain information about the area? I've really enjoyed reading your responses to everyone's questions as I am trying to learn more about your state. Thanks so much...Trish

Answer
Hi Trish!

I just love it here. You'll be considering one of the most beautiful parts of the State of VT in my opinion.

I'll look forward to meeting you during the Jan 31+ trip. Please lets keep in touch about that, because I'll be visiting my own parents briefly sometime that month (in California) and want to make sure I'm available for you. They are moving back here themselves next year, but won't need housing...they won't be competing with y'all or your folks ;-)

I've done various searches of the towns between Burlington and Middlebury. There are 66 properties on the market with 5 acres or more, between Burlington and Middlebury if I search the MLS with no further criteria. Eventually I'd like to be able to narrow the price range I'm using for your search, so I can make sure you're seeing properties in your email which are of interest.

For now though, here are 24 properties in those towns, which are on 5 or more acres and have either a guest house of some sort of outbuilding.

The towns you'll likely want to consider are Shelburne, Charlotte, Ferrisburg, Vergennes, Panton, New Haven, Addison, Waltham and the like. It's beautiful country!

I'll look forward to being in touch!
If you'd care to email me, I'd like you to have my cell phone number so we can talk a bit at your convenience...
Thanks,
