Question
Hi there Jim, i wrote to you yesterday about my burn to my right calve.Im startin to get really worried,I dropped my bike 4 days ago, the exhaust landed on my leg,so it was on my skin for a fair few seconds..
Later yesterday (three days after burn) my burn started gushin out with blood for no reason, i didnt bump it or anything..Also my whole leg has now cramped up and i can`t move it at all, my muscle keeps contractin and my leg keeps giving way on me!!.I then went asap to the hospital, and they had no doctors in, so the nurse just re-bandgaged the wound and sent me home.. it stoped bleeding last night for only an hour or two, then continued bleeding still up untill now..Only today my foot and calve has began to swell Aswell...

The first two days it didnt bleed at all, not even wen i burnt it!..
I have read some of ur other questions n answers but couldnt find any story simular to mine..

Is it normal to bleed after a few days only??
Does it sound like there is anything wrong with my healing process??

Answer
Hi Beck,

I would start with a wound wash and then cover the wound with neosporin and a cover the burn completely with sterile gauze. When you can get to the doctorand get a prescription for Silverdene. And use that in place of the neosporin. Make sure that the would is covered with the Silvadene for at least 5 to 6 days and then if the wound still bleeds continue the Silvadene until the would begins the close completely.

Expertise

I can answer a variety of questions concerning the physical care of burns and burn patients which commonly are of interest to both patients and their families. Also I may be helpful in suggesting lifestyle modifications which will help with a more complete recovery from a serious burn. I can also accept questions regarding the physical classifications of burns and the implications regarding the size, depth, and location of burns. What I cannot answer based on my own knowledge and experience I can refer to my current and former collegues in the field including the plastic and trauma surgeons and burn recovery organizations. In many of these cases I will provide a line of communication directly to a specific expert or organization. While I can describe general treatments routines with which I am experienced,I cannot answer questions dealing with specifuc diagnosis of conditions or problems. Additionally, please understand that the area of burn treatments is an experimental one in which there is constant progress and change. Each Burn Center invests a major effort in the development of new materials, treatments, medications, and techniques. In this area of constant change and growth no one can be fully aware of all treatment courses employed.
