Burns/Nair Burns

Question
Hi There,

As I have used Neet on several occasions over the years, I recently purchased a Nair hair removal product for sensitive skin. Last evening I applied it as directed and before I could apply to my other leg completely the first lower leg starting stinging so I immediately washed both legs off - but it felt as if they were on fire - on a scale of 1-10, I would have to say it was a 10 for me. My legs in several areas were bright red and had bumps coming out, which I thought were hives. I sent my child to purchase Benadryl and took 2 tablets immediately, but no relief - my legs were now feeling completely on fire & began to swell. I have never before experienced this reaction to any skin care product so I became very concerned. This morning I noticed that I could not put my boots on due to the swelling and what looks like little scabs have now come on both my legs - what could have caused this and how can it be treated????

Extremely nervous about the issue - I am currently wearing no socks & certainly no boots.

Regards,

Charlene

Answer
Hi Charlene,

Not really my kind of question, but...  Together, get the legs into bath tub. Wash BOTH legs  and then drain the fluid from the tub and wash them again. Get some steroid cream and carefully apply to the legs.

If this doesn't carefully make things better by one full day, then go to the doctor.

OK?

Expertise

I can answer a variety of questions concerning the physical care of burns and burn patients which commonly are of interest to both patients and their families. Also I may be helpful in suggesting lifestyle modifications which will help with a more complete recovery from a serious burn. I can also accept questions regarding the physical classifications of burns and the implications regarding the size, depth, and location of burns. What I cannot answer based on my own knowledge and experience I can refer to my current and former collegues in the field including the plastic and trauma surgeons and burn recovery organizations. In many of these cases I will provide a line of communication directly to a specific expert or organization. While I can describe general treatments routines with which I am experienced,I cannot answer questions dealing with specifuc diagnosis of conditions or problems. Additionally, please understand that the area of burn treatments is an experimental one in which there is constant progress and change. Each Burn Center invests a major effort in the development of new materials, treatments, medications, and techniques. In this area of constant change and growth no one can be fully aware of all treatment courses employed.
