I disagree.

You're not ever supposed to pop blisters on your own, they're supposed to pop by themselves. Doing so before they are ready can cause infection and serious pain. I wouldn't recommend this.

DO NOT BREAK BLISTERS, that adds the the risk of infection, let the body heal itself and watch for infection and swelling.  Apply cooling agents (not ice, and NO butter or oil's) over the counter sunburn gels are best. Give it time and stay out of the sun

I disagree with JimB. You should never break or wash away blisters on a second degree burn, as this will make you more susceptible to infection. By doing this you will cut your risk of infection by more than 50%. If this was the case where the outer layer has been sealed and it is only perspiration under the skin it would be fine to remove this outer layer, but if these are large blisters that cover large areas of skin it is always best to leave them in place as this is your body's version of a bandage to protect damaged skin.

OMG!  That's about the worst advice I've read on here.  Are you for real or are you some 12 year old kid trying to destroy people?  Blisters are the body's way of protecting itself from infection.  Popping and/or removing blisters will open you up to serious infection and scarring.  Ignore this horrible advice and read up about treating sunburn blisters legitimate websites, like webmd.  You should NEVER EVER pop blisters!!!  The skin underneath is raw and needs time to strengthen.  The blisters will drain when the body is ready.

Expertise

I can answer a variety of questions concerning the physical care of burns and burn patients which commonly are of interest to both patients and their families. Also I may be helpful in suggesting lifestyle modifications which will help with a more complete recovery from a serious burn. I can also accept questions regarding the physical classifications of burns and the implications regarding the size, depth, and location of burns. What I cannot answer based on my own knowledge and experience I can refer to my current and former collegues in the field including the plastic and trauma surgeons and burn recovery organizations. In many of these cases I will provide a line of communication directly to a specific expert or organization. While I can describe general treatments routines with which I am experienced,I cannot answer questions dealing with specifuc diagnosis of conditions or problems. Additionally, please understand that the area of burn treatments is an experimental one in which there is constant progress and change. Each Burn Center invests a major effort in the development of new materials, treatments, medications, and techniques. In this area of constant change and growth no one can be fully aware of all treatment courses employed.
