How do they get the distorton sound in Everything Zen?

This song can be best matched by simply using the right mix of gain on your guitar running it straight through the amp.

If you have a strat, use it - and for a perfect matching sound a Marshall or Fender amp would be best, but quite honestly any amp would do.

No special effects needed on this one.  Just play around with the gain and you will find that a high gain (7-8 on my fender amp) and a low volume will give you the grungy sound you are looking for.  Keep the treb and mid at mid level if your amp has those options, bass kept fairly low.

Alternatively, if you want to use a pedal for the sound, a DS-1 should do the trick easily.

If you want to know how Bush did it exactly - I am not 100% positive and none of my articles refer specifically to EZ, but generally the info above should still get the sound you want.
