AnswerTom, breathing is about nuclear bombs and fallout. From the perspective of an unborn child (have you seen the video btw? Kate is in a transparent plastic bubble that symbolizes a womb). The lyrics are really worth paying close attention to.
As for WH Kate was inspired by a film of Wuthering Heights (not sure which one) rather than the book which she read later.If I remember properly she wrote it all on one late moonlit night in her flat in London with the windows wide open. I wonder if the neighbours understood that their disturbed sleep marked a significant moment in popular music lol! Other than that the only other thing that springs to mind is that Kate and Emily Bronte share the same birthday!
