Question
The song ' A womans work' by Kate Bush - who was this written about?

Answer
Hello Alex and thank you for your question. The song titled "This Woman's Work" was written by Kate specifically for a movie soundtrack and later appeared on her album "The Sensual World".
Movie director John Hughes was making a movie titled "She's Having a Baby" and sent Kate a video clip of a specific scene from the movie. In this scene,a young man paces nervously while his partner is in the delivery room.So many thoughts are racing through his head.Mostly guilty thoughts of how he could have been there more for her and also of confronting the need to more or less grow up in a hurry as he will now be a father.
Kate wrote the song based on how she saw the scene and Hughes was thrilled with the result. For me,it is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching songs I've ever heard.
This is a summary of what I've learned in my research into Kate Bush and her music. If you'd like more insight into this song,I suggest trying the website "Cloudbusting:Kate Bush in Her Own Words".Here you can see what Kate herself has to say about this song and most of her other songs as well. Also,"Gaffaweb"is the ultimate source for all things Kate, and you can find full lyrics here.
I hope that answers your question Alex and thanks again for the question.Have a great day!!
