Question
What exactly is this song talking about?

Answer
Hello Merida and thanks for your question.Sorry I took a while, I've been moving these past few days.
"This Woman's Work" was written by Kate for a movie by John Hughes titled "She's Having a Baby".She was sent a clip of a scene in which the expectant father, a young man himself, is pacing the floor while his young wife is delivering their child. The use of flashbacks ,etc. suggest his thoughts of being forced into growing up by this experience.
Anyway , in this song Kate is expressing the feelings this young man is having. For example, "it's hard on the man, now his part is over, now starts the craft of the father."
Next time you hear this song listen as if it were the young man's thoughts as he undergoes a life changing experience of fatherhood.
I hope I was able to help and thanks again for your question
