Question
I have a company that is about 3 years old. I started as a sole proprietorship and incorporated as an S-corp this January. I have some debts that I have been unable to pay from when the company was a sole proprietorship. The company I owe money to seemed to have forgotten about the debt for over a year, however, I have just recently received a letter from a collection agency addressed to the corporation.
I am unsure how this affects both me and my business. If I make payment arrangement via the corporation does this in any way insulate me personally? Or, what would be the best way to proceed. My goal is not to skip out on the debt, but it is impossible to pay the full amount (or near it) right now.

It is my understanding that since these debts were incurred when you were a sole proprietor, you are personally liable. Your best bet is to contact the collection agency or the original creditor and set up a reasonable payment arrangement, once you do that, make sure you put it in writing and keep to it. Otherwise you will have problems. Good luck!
