Business Debt - Starting a in house collectionAgency

Expert: Michelle Dunn - 3/27/2008

Question
Our ambulance service is looking at the possibility of starting a in-house collection agency for our service. We are not having much luck locating specific guidelines for our area.(Ohio) Where would be a good place to look?

Answer
If your starting an "in-house collection agency" you would treat it as any other debt collection agency and follow those laws, the FDCPA, FCRA and any laws in your state. I have the laws listed by state in my new book and also as a special report on my website.
Remember that an in-house credit manager or collection department is totally different than an in-house collection agency with different laws you must follow, so be sure of which you would like to do.
You can also find more resources on starting a collection agency at http://www.credit-and-collections.com/, just click on Starting a Collection Agency. Also, you can check out my book titled Starting a Collection Agency and other books that can help you with your startup at   http://www.michelledunn.com/shop/catalog.php?category=6 I also have a special report on who to contact in each state in order to do debt collection and if any special licensing or bonding is needed in that state at http://www.michelledunn.com/shop/catalog.php?item=24
Also check out this website:  www.Startingacollectionagency.com for more information. Good luck!!
