Business Debt/Collecting on business debts

Question
Christine -
I started a commercial appraisal business on 6/1/2004, a one-woman shop, and to get me off the ground, a few colleagues helped me with subcontracting jobs. Two of these jobs haven't paid yet. Unfortunately, both were verbal contracts. The clock is ticking at warp speed and I need to do something about these accounts. One business owner owes me $1,750 and the other owes $7,000. I attempted to call/contact the first guy within the first 6 months or so with no response. I had sporadic conversations with the second guy over the past couple years but no money forthcoming. I've really procrastinated on this - my very big bad - but my window is closing so - help! I think Pennsylvania law starts the clock when the service was completed, so I have a week or two on the former and maybe a month on the other.

Thanks! for your help.

Answer
Jenise:
Thank you for your question. You are correct about the statute of limitations in your state. If you are really pressed for time, I would turn this over to a licensed/bonded collection agency or collection attorney to gain some recovery. This may mean a commission needs to be paid if they can collect, but it is worthy of the task. You may find an attorney in your state by visiting www.findlaw.com
Good luck.
