Business Debt/Credit card company liability

Question
If a business or individual has used fraudulently obtained money to pay off credit card expenditure, does the credit card company have any liability for this money to the fraud victim?

Answer
Wendy:
Thank you for your inquiry. If I understood the basis of your question, you are asking if a creditor who received monies to pay off debt has the obligation to "refund" money to any third party who might have provided that money unknowingly. I suspect not, however in
truth, I do not know. Fraud is a serious accusation and (legal) matter, and one that should be handled by legal counsel. If this directly involves you in any way you should consult with an attorney, contact the credit card company and obtain whatever information you can about their policy and perhaps contact the Federal Trade Commission to see if they can help. You can also contact your States Attorney General office to see about any guidelines to filing a complaint.

Thank you.
