Question
What is the Proper Signature Etiquette order for stacked signatures on a certificate or award.

(Example: Department Head above the Division Head? or the reverse?

Dear Merritt:

Thank you for your question.  The protocol for signatures is that the most prominent - the first read,  is the signature of the person who is closest in contact with the recipient - probably the Department Head in this case.  It is followed (agreed upon in essence) by the next senior person and up the ladder if pertinent, (Division Head).

For future reference think of the common sense - the person for whom the recipient works gives the recognition so their signature goes first. They are supported by their superior in the decision so that superior's signature goes next.
