Subject: Holiday Bonuses

Question
Is it appropriate to send a thank you note for a year end bonus.  This is not a formal part of the compensation package.  And , although the owner of our company does this every year, the timing and amount are not formalized.  My instinct is to send a written thanks but I'm not entirely sure if that's right.

Answer
Mr. Guimot,

It is not always customary to send a thank you note for holiday bonus.  However, when working for a small to midsize business that has a more intimate setting I would recommend sending a handwritten note regarding the thoughtful gesture.  Upon receipt of bonus, forward your thanks.  Have a great holiday!
