Question Consider this scenario. My nephew is a programmer for a company that manages large investment portfolios. He has been working on a project to develop a program to decide how to invest a large amount of money according to criteria that balance risk and potential gain according to the client's preferences. The program is complete and has performed well in preliminary testing, but the planned full-scale testing has not been done yet.
This past Friday afternoon, and one of the investment managers had just received a large amount of money from a client to invest. The investment manager wanted to get the money into the stock market before the weekend. He tells my nephew that there is not enough time to use the old investment-planning method. He wants a copy of new program to run. The supervisor, the software manager, was gone away for the weekend. What will you do in this scenario?
Answer I would go to the software manager's supervisor or the highest level manager he can find, maybe even the investment manager's supervisor. If he can't get management signoff, then he should have the investment manager making the request sign off that he understands the software has not been fully tested yet.
