Business Software - Business Card Creation

Question
Hi Scottgem,
I am a licensed acupuncturist, Certified Iridologist, and Reflexologist planning to begin a practice this Fall.
I want to make some business cards and also create those 1 page brochures with info on front and back.
Would you recommend any publishing software you would prefer if you were creating those cards and brochures?
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Mike Eidson

Answer
Just about anything can be used to design business cards. Word, Powerpoint, most graphics programs, etc. I would NOT recommend printing your own cards however. You can design your own but take them to a printer to actually print. It will be a much more professional presentation. I would print the card design at 4"x7" (2x normal size) and have the printer shrink it by 50% for printing. Comes up sharper that way.

As for brochures, if you are talking about a full page front and back, again any word processor can do it. If you are talking something like a tri-fold brochures, Word has templates for that, but MS Publisher might be a better choice.

You might also want to consider a design firm to do the work. It might not be as expensive as you might thnk. Your expertise is in the medical not the marketing end. A professional DTPer has expertise in the marketing end and is more likely to design something professional and attractive.
