Question
I have a Dell, Win XP machine that is having problems.  The mouse will disappear and when you working on application, you will be automatically switched to another.  For example you'll be working in IE and then you suddenly switched to Microsoft Word with out hitting Alt +Tab.  Ever heard of this?

Answer
Did the below help with your mouse issue?  I didn't realize the latest question came from the same person.  I strongly suggest defragmenting.

While I'm not familiar with your specific problem, the following command can resolve "strange" system behavior because the smooth operation of the operating system depends on an uncorrupted underlying file system.  File system corruption can occur randomly over time.  the chkdsk command is used to check/repair the filesystem.

Go to a command prompt (Start-Rum-"cmd")

and enter

chkdsk c: /f

you'll see

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Answer: y

You'll see:

This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.

Then reboot.  This may help.

You may also want to defragment the drive.  let me know if you need help on that one.

Good luck.
