Question
how does one make a small consulting career of business writing for companies?

Answer
Thank you for writing to AllExperts.com. Your question generates books of answers, for it is lengthy and detailed. I will point you in the right direction to get you started.

1. READ. (Entrepreneur, Black Entrepreneur, Success, sales [magazines]).
2. Prepare a business plan. (There are lots of books at the library.) There's no need to buy books at the bookstore.
3. Read about the successes and failures of starting a business.
4. Buy (Yes, Buy) all the books by Jay Conrad Levinson. Go to his website for a lot of free information.

The idea here is to get started with the stuff that's right. Do it right. Never just jump into a business. Plan. Plan. Plan.

Planning is 80% of the work.

5. Determine your prospective clients.
6. Gather information about your prospective clients.

Hope this helps you making the decision.

Sincerely,

Kaylyn
