Business & Technical Writing/Trademark Symbol Use

Question
I am aware that there are guidelines for trademark symbol use, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. The User Guide I'm working on references our product numerous times - do I put the TM symbol by the product name every time, or just the first use?  If only the first use, should I have a Trademark section in the document to make statements about trademarks used in the User Guide?

Answer
Steve,

The Gregg Manual states, " If you refer to other organizations' trademarks in material of a commercial nature that will be publically distributed, use a raised symbol after each trademark. In all other documents, the symbols are not necessary, but do use the proper spelling and capitalization for these trademarks."

The International Trademark Association at 212 768 9886 or tmhotline@inta.org may be able to help you with your specific circumstances.

Hope this helps.
