Can you offer any advice on where I can learn to write effective product descriptions? Are there any relevant Web sites that offer tips, test, guides, etc. Any advice would be helpful?
Answer Hi, Jared:
My apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I've been deep in the middle of several projects and just didn't have the time until tonight.
As I'm sure you know, what you're looking for is copywriting help--specifically what's commonly known as "catalog copy". Since you're opting not to hire a freelance copywriter and have professed a desire to learn the art and craft of writing copy, I suggest ANY books by Bob Bly (also known as Robert W. Bly).
Bob is, in short, one of the best copywriters working today. Here is a link to his books:
A good number of them give excellent instruction and tips on how to write catalog copy. In fact, if you study Bob's books and instructions religiously, you'll find that you actually become a better writer of not only catalog copy, but all forms of copy, as well.
Good luck with your copywriting!
Best,
Richard Dean Starr
