Business & Technical Writing/addressing an envelope

Question
Hi, I would like to know the proper way to address an envelope when the person is a Jr. or a Sr.  For example, John and Kate Smith Jr.?  Or John Jr. and Kate Smith?   Thanks!

Answer
Hi Tina,

Good question!  Only John is the Jr. or Sr., so it would be incorrect to use John and Kate Smith Jr.  Therefore, the correct format would be either John, Jr. and Kate Smith or John Smith, Jr. and Kate Smith.

Take care,
