Business & Technical Writing - proper format

Expert: Leslie - 8/21/2007

Question
What is the preferred format for  email that comes before an email address when used on a business card . I have seen it  several ways - examples E-mail, email E-Mail?

Answer
Emma,

I am not sure that a decision on the best format has been determined.

The company style manual often dictates these issues.

The Greg Manual states that the word e-mail, as an abbreviation does not capitalize the E and a hyphen is placed after the e: e-mail.

The same manual shows the signature block in a memo as having no indicator of what the address is. Usually, the e-mail address is pretty apparent, so adding the abbreviation, e-mail, is redundant. Since so many of the addresses are often long, putting nothing may be the best solution.
