Question
Writing, travelling and how to live off of it.

How many people here are currently travel writing as a way to make income while travelling?  Have you found this to be relatively easy work to find (in Asia, in particular)? If so, how did you go about landing a job?

I, personally have a Journalism background and have worked in both freelance/newsroom set-ups and for a magazine (as a writer/editor).  I'm currently teaching English in Asia.

My question is, what are my chances of finding p/t travel writing work via the net?

p.s.
I'd also be interested in hearing from people who have discovered other writing-related ways of generating income (via the net) during their travels.

Answer
There are numerous net opportunities for writing p/t.  A simple Google will yield lots of sites to choose from.  Many travel magazines also have an online version.  Contact them too.  With your background you should already know the ins and outs of getting freelance work.  So I won't go into that.  Just keep in mind that net zines often pay a lot less than hard copy.  So you may have to work a little harder to keep the cash flow.  I also suggest joining some of the free online writing groups that send out newsletters and opportunity links.  It's a fast way to get tips and leads.  Just Google this too and you'll find plenty to choose from.  I belong to Worldwide Freelance Writer.  Don't limit yourself to travel mags either.  With your connection to Asia, look for ethnic mags that have a travel column too.
