Buying or Selling a Home/Offers on homes for sale

Question
If I make an offer in writing in Michigan, does the listing realtor have to respond in writing to that offer.  I have made 2 offers on homes and neither replied in writing.

Answer
Gloria:

I don't sell in Michigan, but in Massachusetts it's common for negotiations to be verbal, after a written offer is submitted.  Frankly, responding to all offers in writing would be very time consuming, and not very practical.  However, if an offer is rejected, a buyer can request that the seller sign the "offer not accepted" section of the offer on the standard form.  This is usually only requested if one feels that the seller is not looking at the actual paperwork.

That's what we do here in MA.  My advice would be to get a buyer's agent in Michigan.  That will probably help you to answer inquiries like this.  If you're not comfortable with the process, I humbly submit that you could use some more assistance.  Get some professional help!!  If you'd like, I could refer you to someone.

Sincerely,
