Question
My wife and myself owe a property in Espanola N.M. ( Reo-Arreba County)Recently we paid all our debt with the Mortgage Coy and we do not owe on this property anything. Do we have to register the ownershipand to what office do we have to turn to?

Answer
Hi Abraham-
Thanks for your question. Once you have paid off the mortgage, you should receive a notice of satisfaction of lien or something similar from the bank or mortgage company. It can take awhile however if you don't receive it, I would follow up with them to get whatever document is normal for your state. Then, I would take it to your county clerk and have it recorded (there will be a small fee) so there is an official record. It may be slightly different in NM but it should be substantially the same. Hope this helps. Congratulations and best of luck, Toni
