Buying or Selling a Home/buying a loft

Question
Is it possible to purchase a completely empty loft? I mean devoid of kitchen, bathroom, etc. I want the customization of designing my own without having to buy something already there and ripping it out, and I don't want to build a house from scratch, I just want an empty space to work with. Is this realistically available in California? How do I go about finding it?

Answer
Dear Taylor,

Lofts are becoming popular in many cities so where you live in California will determine whether they are available.  Check the real estate sections of the local newspaper and check with local realtors.  The only problem you may have in purchasing one without a kitchen or bath is that you probably won't be able to get financing.  Look into the city where you live and there might be developments going on.  You can then see what kind of cooperation you can get from the developer.

Hope this helps.
