Question
We were recently informed that the house we have a 12 month lease on is being sold. Fortunately for them our lease ends April 30th. My question is, however, what rights do we have regarding them wanting to show the place before we are out? The lease states they have to give 24 hours notice and can only show during their business hours, but the realtor left a message today asking to list our home number so other realtors can call to make after hour appointments as well. Is this odd??? I was offended. It also makes me think that they plan to be showing the house without proper notice and giving us a hard time. We said we'd be accommodating as possible but I'm nervous of being taken advantage of. Any thoughts??? Please.

Answer
Dear Joanne,

You are required to follow exactly what is in the lease.  It is customary to put your phone number in the mls so agents can call to schedule showings.  Just agree to show the house according to the terms of the lease.  You are not required to allow a keysafe.  You might want to work something out with the agent a schedule when you would make the house available that is convenient to you and will work for the agent.

Good luck,
