About Tina Clarke
Expertise
I am an Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) and I own my own home staging business. Home Staging is the very best proven way to get top dollar for your home as you prepare it for sale. Homes that are Staged with an ASP Professional Home Stager sell faster and for more money! This is because Staging sets the scene throughout the house to create immediate buyer interest in your property. This will then lead to your home selling for the highest possible price in today's market. I can answer questions about getting your home ready to sell, specifically what you need to do to get it sold faster and for more money. I can assist with arranging furniture, arranging accessories, decluttering and cleaning tips, choosing the right paint colors, selecting furniture to rent for vacant homes, how to update your home when it is outdated and out of style etc...I can not answer questions about contracts on buying/selling house or legal issues that a Realtor would have to answer.

Buying or Selling a Home - Question on Home Staging

Expert: Tina Clarke - 4/30/2008

Question
Hi Tina,

My husband and I are moving into a home built in 2000 and we want to get it re-painted.  I'd like to keep it as neutral as possible so if we ever have to sell the house the potential buyers can see themselves living in the home but I'd also like to give it a little bit of personality - say maybe some coffee colors, etc.  Is it possible to paint some colors other than white that are appealing to most buyers or is it best to keep it basic in order to make sure anyone will feel at home there?

Answer
Whatever you do, don't paint the walls white!!!  This is absolutely boring and would not showcase your home or its architecture.  Speaking of coffee colors, I like Caffe Latte by Sherwin Williams.  I've used it in my own home.  Maybe mix it up with a nice cream in some rooms, latte in others.  Also you can use pastel colors, like a light green, blue or yellow.  This is appealing to a wide range of buyers as well.
