Experience
Anyone who is in this business and who dedicates oneself to professionalism has continued to take classes and along with it,additional credentials, awards and honors. I can list a host of them, but my greatest accomplishments happen to be those of getting first time buyers (who didn't think they could afford to buy a home)into a home of their dreams. The look on their faces when I hand over the keys is worth all of the hard work.

Buying or Selling a Home - co signing

Expert: Jessica Bryan - 5/21/2008

Question
Hi i live in California i plan on moving to an apartment with my boyfriend, i barely started my credit and my boyfriend has no credit, but he earns pretty good money 23.00$ an hour. the apartment we are trying to get is from 700-800 a month. first we plan on trying out by ourselves to see if we get the apartment (credit wise), but if we don't we have a co signer back up, but the co signer is trying to get a house right now, will that prevent the co signer from getting the house sense she is co signing. will that get on her way at all. will it affect her any sort of way if she co signs for us?

Answer
Dear Ingris;
It seems like you should be able to get into the apartment without a co-signer but if you need one, it will be difficult for her to buy a home and have a financial obligation as a co-signer on your apartment.  She (and you) should talk to a lender before making any decisions on what to do since the lender will need to know what you are planning and will have to run a qualification for the amount that the co signer wants to borrow.

Best wishes,
Jessica Bryan
