Buying or Selling a Home - home liens

Expert: Rommel J. Mijares - 5/8/2008

Question
I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING OUR FIRST HOME. I HAVE DONE SOME HOMEWORK BUT CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GO AND VERIFY IF A HOME HAS ANY TAXES OR LIENS PENDING.

Answer
Hi Thank you for your question.

Verifying all the liens on a property is typically the job of the title company. That is a part of the "closing fees" associated with a home purchase. Any liens that would prevent a "free and clear" transfer has to be taken cared of prior to the sale being finalized and all documents recorded.

I hope this help. Please don't hesitate to ask a follow-up question if you have any.

Very Sincerely,
R. Mijares
