Buying or Selling a Home - real estate ethics

Expert: John - 5/19/2008

Question

Could you please tell me, is the real estate agent bound by any ethical requirements of law? For instance: If the real estate agent knows that a piece of land is in a neighborhood restricted in the deeds to new buildings with high standards, & he still sells the land to a person who is going to move an absolute piece of junk onto the land...is he liable in any way? How can he in good sell a piece of land to someone who he knows is intent on breaking the rules of the deed? Thanks, robbie

Answer
No one can refuse to sell to anyone.

There for, even if the agent knew the intent, the agent can not refuse to sell.
Thats against the federal law.

The agent should tell the client, if the agent knew the deed was restricted.

So no, it is not against the law nor ethics.

John
