Question
If a person applies for a homeloan and house has no mortgage but owner can't locate deed; how does the bank confirm ownership; and is owner expected to get another deed and how is that done.

Answer
Somewhere in the dusty archives of your county recorder, Helene, is the title to the house to which you are referring. You never have to worry about the bank finding out who is the owner of a property. It is a matter of public record. They merely contact their title company (abstract company in some locales) when the loan is applied for. They will discover whatever liens and encumbrances the property has. No need to worry. By the way, you can do the same. Most likely you can do it online. Just go to your county recorder's website and they will ask you for your address. If not, give them a call. Simple as all that. You never have to even have your property deed on hand. It is always in the county recorder. I do wish you well.
