Question
I am trying to put my house on the market as a short sale, this broker who is working with us as asked us to $ 1,500 as processing fee, is that how it works when you put your house on a short sale you have to pay a certain fee to your broker in order for him/her to obtain certain information from lender? please help because i don't want to fall into a scam.

Thanks
Nunu

Answer
Hello Nunu,

Thank you for your question.

I do not know where you live, but I think that real estate brokerage is somewhat similar everywhere.

Brokers can ask for whatever fees they want in a competitive environment.

If you have a broker savvy aat this process it may be the best thing to do.  first ask for references of other successful short sales and contact the participants and ask if it was ok.

If the broker can't give you references then maybe you shuold ask someone else.  Try coldwell Banker.

Good luck,

Hans

I am able to answer questions related to buying or selling residential real estate in New York. There are many questions buyers and sellers have about the process of buying or selling a home that they are afraid to ask or that might seem too simple to ask. For instance: in a house, why do some doors open in and some doors open out?
