Subject: where to find VIN on 1958 G Lakes home

Question
My sister purchased a 1958 mobile home & needs to find the VIN in order to register.  The title says G Lakes as the brand.  There is newer siding over the original, so need to know the approx location to find the metal plate with the VIN in order to limit the amount of siding which must be pulled off.  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Karen....yes, I have had to pull off a few panels in my time.  I'm curious as to why the title, or registration is not part of the transaction. How would you even know if the person selling it has the right to do so?
OK...lets start the easy way:  Look on the master bedroom closet wall for a paper pasted there....this may have vin, etc.  Is there a license plate on it?   A sticker in front or back?  Also check in the laundry area for the "wall paper".
There really were no rules back then.  If all else fails, a piece of siding about knee to waste high....left side on a single I guess.
Good luck, and let me know where you find it.....oh, one last thing....if it still has the "tongue" on it, it could be stamped in the steel...."~ Michael
