Buying or Selling a Home/settlement date on house

Question
We found a house we fell in love with 2 1/2 months ago & put a contract pending the sale of our house on the house.  They could keep selling, marketing the house etc.  4 days ago, we finally sold our house.  The other house is still available.  We signed with our buyer to have settlement Aug. 28 or before knowing that the people we are buying from can move with realtives if they needed to.  NOW our realtor (who has been less than great) sees nothing wrong with us needing to live out of a truck for a wk or 2 to be homeless.  She feels we need to work with the people we are buying from on when they need to move & no one can give us a date on when we can settle with them as they are house shopping & haven't heard back yet from the house they put in an offer on this wkend.

We feel this can't possibly be normal for any realtor who is making a nice % of money to think this is acceptable to not give us a date on when we can settle.

What do we need to do & are we right to think we need to know when we are moving or is this too soon in the process?  (our realtor also can't understand why we aren't willing to move in the middle of the week.  My husband & I both work & getting help to move in the middle of the wk is NOT an option.  She also believes we MUST have the truck loaded up & waiting at settlement - again in the middle of the wk instead of working out an arrangement with the buyer or our house & seller of the other house).

Very frustrated - please help!
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kara,

I know it will all work out!  The details of the situation are a little fuzzy, but I can tell you this... everything in real estate is a negotiation!  If that means closing on your current home and leasing it back from your new buyers for a few days or asking to occupy the new home before you actually settle on it.

With regards to the mid-week close, it's not atypical for that to happen.  Hopefully you and your husband have and understanding boss and can have a few days off to hire movers etc.

My best advice is to voice some of your displeasure to your Realtor about what's happening and hopefully he/she has enough pride to help you find a suitable solution.

Best of luck with the new house.
