Question
My x wife recently died and the house we co-owned now belongs to her new husband and I. I was thinking of selling him my share. Is this something we can do ourselfs, or do we have to involve lawyers and etc?

Answer
I suppose that is possible, Jack, but you have to realize there is so much more involved than simply taking his money and you signing a piece of paper. All it takes is someone on his side advising him that he should get title insurance . . . then you'd be off to the races. If there are any liens on the property (it could be even without your knowledge) then time and money would be involved.

I might be capable of guiding you, but I do not know in what state the property is located and I would have to view the existing title, and I would have to check the title from the title company, etc., etc. Then I would have to charge a fee for my time. You are much better off going to a REAL ESTATE attorney to make sure it is done correctly for your state. I do wish you well, Jack.
