Buying or Selling a Home/property in France

Question
Hello Liznarr, can you let me know,in the case of a house in France, owned by 4 siblings while the father has usurer-free
can a part owner insist on being bought out?

Answer
Hi Penelope,

In the United States, persons who own property jointly with others have what is called a Right to Partition.  When one of multiple owners wants to “cash out” their portion of ownership and the remaining owners do not agree to buy him out or sell the property, the person wanting out can bring a Partition action to try and force a sale.  The action is a Court action and would be decided by the Courts.

Whether or not France has such a law, I do not know.  Possibly you could contact an attorney who could research this for you.

Sorry I was not of more help, but maybe the above will point you in the right direction.  Good luck to you, and feel free to write again if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Elizabeth
