Question
My sister has passed and my father is concerned that if the deed has to be transferred to his name to sell her house, will he have to pay taxes on it? Does the deed have to be transferred from the "estate of" to the heir, my father? She did not leave a will.

My condolences with the passing of your sister... since your sister did not leave a will, you need to contact a real estate attorney. You will have to have the estate probated before the property can be sold. I advise you to seek a referral, or interview a couple lawyers and get a good feel and one that doesn't charge to much...Good luck
