Do you think web sites such as mlalistings.com or
craigslist.org have in some ways made realtors obsolete?
Have you found more sellers starting to use for sale by
seller alternatives then going through a realtor? If so, do

Thank you for your question...

Interesting question... No it has not effected my business in a negative way at all. I use CraigsList and the many other internet property search sites to advertise my listings effectively. 80%+ of all buyers depend on the internet to search for properties in their immediate area or in another area that they have an interest in moving to in the near or distant future. It has had a greater negative effect on print advertising due to the potential buyer wanting more information, pictures, virtual tours, and up to date information about the area in which they may want to move to.

Regarding For Sale by Owners... No, as it always been there has been a number of Buyers that thrive on the unsuspecting sellers who do not have experience in selling a home, costing them thousands of dollars. But there has been a number of success stories as well. Believe it or not, 99% of all properties are sold thru a Realtor simply for the professional representation needed in one of the most important financial investments one has in their portfolio to date. When you need brain surgery, do you go to your GP for the operation? Or do you go to the specialist who knows what they are doing? The same applies to one of the most significant investments in your financial portfolio today. The broker fee you think is a large fee, but is an insignificant amount of money compared to unsuspecting cost by not having the proper representation. This especially applies to the For Sale by Owner.

There are many good Realtors still doing a great deal of business today. This economy if anything weeds out the real estate agents who are just there to make easy money in an good real estate market. Good Realtors have a long and lasting reputation in the real estate to sustain their business.
