Buying or Selling a Home/Starting out as a real estate agent

Question
Sue:

I'm currently in the process of obtaining my real estate license and live here in the Los Angeles area. I love the sales process and want to succeed as a realtor however I want to ensure that I don't make unnecessary mistakes when i start out.

Id like to pick your brain and find out what you would suggest or what advice you would give to a new agent just starting out, especially in this economy. I realize there is great income potential in real estate however many agents either don't pursue it correctly or have the dream, but not the commitment and drive to succeed. I know i can do this and be a top producer. Because of this I feel that if I have the drive and ability to handle rejection then I can succeed at this.

Id appreciate any and all advice you can give me.

Thank you
Dave Wilson

Answer

Dave--

Most of the "Top Producers" in the LA area are blood relatives of the very rich and/or famous. Your best chance of becoming a "Top Producer" is to find one of those "Richie( or Richelle) Rich-types
who needs a Personal Assistant and work with him/her for a year or two!

If not the "Personal Assistant" route, and you're going on your own, find a Franchised Company that provides on-going Free training to it's Agents and has a Sales Manager that will work with you! But be prepared to spend some money on appropriate clothing, car, etc. You've got to look successful to get that way!

AS for your "ability to handle rejection," you should note that apparently SUE rejected you, as I'm not Sue--I found your Inquiry above in the QUESTION POOL where she must have sent it about a month ago(?)You handled that rejection well!

GOOD LUCK in Real Estate!
