Buying or Selling a Home/Shoe Etiquette

Question
Hello,
I am a realtor, and my partner and I have a client who asks us to remove our shoes when at their home. As it is summer he and I both usually wear sandals and go barefoot in our client's home. In your opinion, is it professional for us to go barefoot or should  we bring slippers or wear socks/stockings? Also, have you ever had to go barefoot when showing or viewing a home?
Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Sophia-
Thanks for the question. This isn't exactly a boker's question but it is fun! Personally, I would not go barefoot in my client's house for a couple of reasons but primarily because it is not hygenic (for you or them). I would get a fun (and colorful) pair of little slippers or socks and make a big deal of slipping them on "to protect their floors." Why not use it as a marketing tool? I usually remove my shoes anyway (at least the first time in) to show respect for the client's home when I go on a listing appointment or show a house. You might invest in a box of "shoe covers" that are made specifically for this purpose and either take them with you or set them by the door in your client's house. Just a thought! Best, Toni
