Buying or Selling a Home/buying in brooklyn

Question
Dear mr Weber,

I have inherited a considerable amount 2 years ago, am bound to buy a property in New York, have prospected apartments in real estate section of NYT, have read a lot of articles on this matter etc.

Once I havent the necessary fluency in English, I´ve got some doubts that piled out.

First one is: what is the entire paperwork a foreign citizen (Brazilian) must present to and request to be presented so the transaction runs in a transparent way?

Besides the funds, what else must I have in hands and expect owners, brokers etc to present me?

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Caro Heitor,

Gracias para sua pergunta!

Once you have used a Realtor to find a property to buy you will need to sign a contract.  For this purpose you will need a lawyer to review them with.  I am sure you can find a Portugues speaking one through the Brazilian Govt Trade Bureau.

Hope this helps you.  Sorry for the delay, my password was lost.

I am able to answer questions related to buying or selling residential real estate in New York. There are many questions buyers and sellers have about the process of buying or selling a home that they are afraid to ask or that might seem too simple to ask. For instance: in a house, why do some doors open in and some doors open out?
