Buying or Selling a Home/property tax liens

Question
I sold a mobile home in San Diego in December of 2004.  I did not use an escrow company because I had relocated to Colorado and was ready to lose my mobile home.  An individual in the real estate business did a quick transaction for me (sold home for $7,000)and I paid for the title to be transferred.  I now find that I have tax liens against me because the new owner never completed the transfer.  I have tried everything I know to get my named released from the taxes on this mobile home that I no longer own but am getting nowhere.  I am very frustrated.  Do you have any advise?

Answer
Hi Beverly...2 things, if you have copies of the transfer papers and cancelled check, you can try to contact HCD in California.
If not, your only hope is to go to the Calif. state website, click on Housing and Community link...find the Ombudsman info, call him and ask for help...they represent the people, and will be able to assist, if possible

Sorry...always go through escrow under ANY circumstances!  Good luck.   "~ Mike

YOU CAN DO PRIVATE TRANSACTIONS, BUT ESCROW IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSFERS, TAXES, LIENS, ETC.
