Buying or Selling a Home/sellers responsibilities for buyers insurance

Question
I am selling my house in Durham, NC and have been told that we need to clear all trees and bushes within a foot of the house by the buyers insurance company in order for him to be issued a policy.  This was not something that came up on the inspection report or that was asked of us to do on the Repair and Request Agreement. Is this our responsibility or can we tell him that he needs to find a new insurance company?

Answer
Personally I have never heard of this. I might seek advise from your own insurance company. Buyers Insurance company might have reason to think there is liability issues or other concerns. Some insurance companies are more concerned today about pine stray around homes.

The only time this comes up on inspection reports is if trees are dead and might cause damage to home if or when they fall. Dead shrubs also bring on termites.
