Buying or Selling a Home/leaking roof

Question
We recently purchased a home and the day we started moving in the roof leaked. We contacted the Realtor and she sent her husband out who is a roofer. He came by a couple of times and caulked. The roof still leaks. We have done everything we could to fix the lead besides putting a new roof on. We were told by the neighbors that just before we bought the house that a roofer was here working on it. We were told by the Realtor the the roof was six years old. We found out that the roofer that worked on the roof last was the Realtor's husband. She stated that she did not know there was a problem with the roof. She also stated that the house was inspected twice before we bought the house. Do we have a legal rights to pursue this? We bought a $1000 home and did not expect to have to put a new roof on three months after we moved in. We saved everything we could for the down payment on the house and can not afford to fix it.

Answer
Hello, thank you for your question.

Hard to answer your question, there are so many questions for you; Was property a foreclosure? is so, most are sold as-is.If not a foreclosure, was it a conventional sale? Was home inspected by you.

First, I would check and see if your state has a "disclosure statement" This is a form used to disclose issues, problems, etc.

In our state closing constitutes acceptance of property.

If it were me, I would maybe have a conversation with your agent or the agents broker, see what they say.

Really need to know the answers to the first 2 questions.

Let me know.
