How much incomes do one need to make to own a $350,000 house?

Hello Henry - In January 2011 loan originators were required to become licensed and I would be less than professional if I answered this questions with specificity to an income amount. I can let you know that each individual loan (source of funding) requires different 'guidelines' which must met to qualify for each different loan. FHA, VA and conventional all have different guidelines and 'ratios' (percent of income and percent of debt) that must also be taken into consideration in answering your question. I recommend you talk to a loan originator (aka loan officer) in the area where the home you desire to buy is located (city, state). They will know the mortgage loan limits for and qualifying ratios for loans to purchase the home that meets your budget. Usually the loan originator will investigate your income and debt, as well as other criteria and then select a few of the loan programs available to their brokerage. Ask them to provide you with no less than three scenario's of what they interpret to be the best programs they have available that meet your needs. Then make a decision what is best for you from that information. Please also note that effective April 1st, 2011 loan originators will be required to follow a similar prescription with all prospective borrowers as required by new FTC Rules. In a nutshell, seek a loan originator in the same jurisdiction as the property you elect to purchase and allow them to provide you with their options. Remember, each mortgage brokerage is like a retail shop... so it may prove beneficial to shop around. - Todd Menard
